Hedonist’s Guide To Berlin 1st Edition (A Hedonist’s Guide to…): Sarah Marshall
Editorial Reviews
Berlin is a city of two halves–the chic West and the alternative, unbearably hip East. If there’s one city that never sleeps it’s Berlin, however, the action can prove somewhat elusive and this guide steers the reader from the style conscious bars to the underground clubs. A city of constant uprising, endless innovation and unpredictable change hardly fits the bill as head of a traditionally conservative and straight-laced nation.

Editorial Reviews
The author, a travel journalist, was born and lives in Germany. Covers every part of the country, from Berlin to Dresden, the Black Forest to Hamburg, Cologne, Munich and Bavaria - with the kind of inside detail that only a resident can provide. Hundreds of small towns are barely changed from the Middle Ages. We visit the best ones. The author provides innumerable tips on special discounts available for travelers (some 20 on train and bus travel alone) and tells how to save on gas (cheapest on Mondays, most expensive on Wednesdays), as well as virtually everything else, with inside information on getting the best hotel rooms at the best prices, the best deals and the best food at restaurants. For every area of the country, full information is supplied on how to get around, the best shopping, the foods and the recommended places to eat, where to stay, from charming guesthouses, hostels and campsites, on up to the most luxurious hotels. Includes town and country walks, cycling, fishing, canoeing & kayaking, Rhine cruises, wine tours, concerts and other cultural events - it’s all here! As a Pocket Adventure Guide, it shows you how to experience everthing the country offers more intensely and directly than most travelers know how to do - seeing the place close-up through adventures, both cultural and physical, including in-depth encounters with the people. Other guides lack our level of detail, our adventure perspective and our emphasis on direct experience of the country. We provide an insider’s knowledge that you won’t find in other guides.
Berlin: Hotels & More (Taschen Spring) (French and German Edition): Angelika Taschen, Thorsten Klapsch
Editorial Reviews
Melting pot metropolis Glamorous in the Roaring Twenties, destroyed during World War II and divided afterwards, rebuilt in the 1950s, and now reunited, Berlin is a city of vibrant contrasts where diverse cultures form a multihued urban fabric. Derelict former Communist neighborhoods have been reincarnated as haunts for artists and designers while elsewhere the city’s old traditions are also still very much alive. Places Angelika Taschen recommends you stay while visiting Berlin include everything from classic hotels like Regent Schlosshotel, bed and breakfast-style pensions such as N?rnberger Eck and Askanischer Hof in Charlottenburg, or the serviced apartments Lux 11 in Berlin-Mitte. And of course none of the hotel books would be complete without a copious helping of hotspots to visit and places at which to eat and drink during your stay. Favorite recommendations for Berlin: include Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s New National Gallery, the Helmut Newton Foundation, a curry wurst stand in Prenzlauerberg where Berlin’s signature dish was invented and a ballroom nearly a century old. About the series: Angelika Taschen’s Hotel series books are much more than simple hotel guides. They are meant to be taken along on your trip, as they not only feature the best and most interesting places to stay ?from low budget to luxury ? but also list hot spots for each hotel’s neighborhood. Once you?re installed in the hotel of your choice, you can peruse our suggestions for restaurants, bars, boutiques, specialty shops, and more.

National Geographic Traveler: Berlin: Damien Simonis
Editorial Reviews
When the hated Berlin Wall was finally breached in 1989 thousands congregated joyfully at Brandenburg Gate to celebrate a new era—and ever since Berlin has reveled in its role as capital of the reunified Germany and one of Europe’s most intriguing cities.
Illustrated with nearly 200 vivid, up-to-date photographs and detailed, full-color maps, National Geographic Traveler: Berlin is an indispensable guide to this sophisticated metropolis, from the massive Reichstag building to the complex of museums and gardens at the former royal palace at Charlottenburg; from the chic shops of Kurfürstendamm to Frederick the Great’s sumptuous palaces at Potsdam.
After a detailed introduction to Berlin’s unique history, food, land, and culture, author Damien Simonis explores each of the city’s diverse neighborhoods. Among the sights: the fabled, tree-lined boulevard called Unter Den Linden; the Tiergarden, a large central park offering green relief; and the world-class museums clustered on Museum Island.
Special sidebars give comprehensive information on such topics as the Berlin Wall; the city’s Jewish community; and the famous Christmas markets. Another favorite feature: mapped, guided tours that include a walk through Red Berlin and a drive through Mecklenburg’s lake district, plus an “Excursions” chapter on the best day trips out of the city. In addition, a thorough Travelwise section provides recommendations for hotels and restaurants in all price ranges and in all areas. If you’re bound for Berlin, National Geographic Traveler is your passport to a memorable trip.
